VincaClear Superior for Mental Enhancement
Q Which is better for a healthy 37 year old, Life Enhancement's Ginkgo biloba or VincaClear? It seems to me that ginkgo is more "natural" and safer than vinpocetine for mental enhancement, but I lack valid arguments. Thanks in advance for your comments. I find your Q&A column of great help.

Dear DG,

A Both vinpocetine and ginkgo biloba help improve blood flow to the brain. According to the extensive research available on vinpocetine -- far more extensive than many drugs approved by the FDA -- it is by far superior in its ability to enhance mental function than ginkgo, not to slight its valuable use. Vinpocetine and ginkgo are alike in that they both positively effect hemodynamic (bloodflow) functions. If by "natural" you mean something free from drug-like side effects and safely metabolized by the body, then vinpocetine is natural as well.1

Life Enhancement makes a formulation containing vinpocetine plus ginkgo, called VincaHear. For more information on the use and functional benefits of vinpocetine and other complimentary nutrients see Life Enhancement's issues for June, July, August, September, and October 1998.

Hope this helps,
Dr V
