CAN HUSBAND WITH ALZHEIMER'S TAKE GALANTAMINE AND HUPERZINE A?
Q Dear Dr. V,
My husband has Alzheimer's and has been taking ThinkingCap, which has
been helpful. He now remembers more and can do more things for himself,
such as eating without assistance and dressing himself, and even attending
to himself in the bathroom. Can he take galantamine with the ThinkingCap?
I would really be thankful for a response.
VV
A Dear VV,
There is scientific literature that supports both huperzine A (found
in ThinkingCap) and galantamine in their role of
memory preservation - and possibly some memory restoration in the case of
galantamine. (See my comments above about combining galantamine with other
cognitive enhancers.) It seems plausible that combining these two items
may yield synergistic improvement.
However, remember that Alzheimer's disease is a medical condition and
should be evaluated and directed by a doctor.
Good luck to both of you.
Dr V
