Galantamine and Vinpocetine Can Go Together
Q Dear Dr. V,
Can I take Galantamine and vinpocetine together?

A Dear JR,
In most cases, these two cognitive enhancers go together well. If you have a medical condition, however, you should consult with your doctor. I have received reports from children of elderly parents with significant dementia or Alzheimer's disease testifying to how galantamine or vinpocetine, or both, had dramatically improved their mother's or father's functioning. One patient was reported to be so improved that she could leave the nursing home and return to her family's care.

Galantamine and vinpocetine enhance cognitive function by different mechanisms. Galantamine leads to greater availability and activity of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (required for certain aspects of brain function), whereas vinpocetine improves blood flow to the brain, thereby improving the delivery of oxygen and glucose to its cells.

I hope this helps.
Dr. V
