Galantamine and Blood Pressure

Q Will galantamine raise blood pressure, and does it interfere with blood pressure medications?

LUCILE, Seaside, CA

A Galantamine has been found to cause lower blood pressure on rare occasions. A galantamine supplement that also contains a bioavailable form of choline, a precursor of acetylcholine, along with vitamin B5, an important cofactor in the production of acetylcholine, may possibly lower blood pressure. So unless you’re starting out with very low blood pressure, such a galantamine supplement is unlikely to be a problem. We are not aware of any reports of negative reactions between any of these ingredients and blood pressure medications.
