Can Mastic Help Pets?

Q I would like to give Bye-Lori II to my animals. They have had several bouts with H. pylori and are presently showing some early signs and symptoms again. Can you recommend it?

Margaret, Richmond, CA

A Most therapeutic studies in pets have not shown long-term eradication of H. pylori. Whether this is due to reinfection or recrudescence (resumption of a disorder or symptom after a period of remission) has not been established. We have received reports, however, that mastic can be of benefit to animals and, when added regularly to their food, can help prevent reinfection.
