Is Galantamine a Drug?

Q Can one purchase your galantamine products without a prescription? How can you guarantee the amount and quality of galantamine within the supplements?

ADRIAN, Oslo, Norway

A Plant-derived galantamine has been “grandfathered” as a nutrient and is not a drug, based on its sale as a nutritional supplement in the United States before the cutoff date established by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994. Therefore, no prescription is needed to buy it in its plant-derived form.

When the FDA examined our original galantamine supplement in 2002, their analysis was positive with regard to both the amount and the quality of galantamine contained in the capsules. Their action has given Life Enhancement an additional incentive to ensure that its galantamine products meet the FDA’s GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.

However, Life Enhancement’s first and best reason to maintain the highest-possible quality standards is because its own executive management uses the products the company manufactures and markets, as do its formulators, such as Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw, who have also served as quality control consultants to the company. Durk & Sandy have each won quality control awards at the highest levels of the aerospace and food manufacturing industries, respectively.
