Life Enhancement
Welcomes
Ward Dean, M.D.

B ack in the mid-1980s, at a time when I was already representing Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw, I met Dr. Ward Dean at an alternative health conference in New York City. Dressed in a flight suit, he explained that he had just come in from Pensacola on a Naval jet, having broken through the sound barrier on his way up. That’s an apt metaphor for a man who has had his finger on the pulse of the anti-aging/life extension movement for nearly three decades, and about whom we once titled an interview, “Breaking Through the Age Barrier” (see the October 1996 issue of Life Enhancement).

Today, Dr. Dean is a world-renowned expert in anti-aging and life extension science, and recognized for his pioneering work with innovative nutritional and pharmacological protocols to delay aging and ameliorate age-related diseases. Dr. Dean has served on the Board of Directors of the American Aging Association, the founding Board of Directors of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and was Vice-President of the International College of Advanced Longevity Medicine.

Apart from his groundbreaking work with Professor Vladimir Dilman in the Neuroendocrine Theory of Aging and Degenerative Disease, Dr. Dean is also a world-renowned expert in biological aging and has published what is widely considered to be the definitive work on the subject, Biological Aging Measurement—Clinical Applications. Dr. Dean is also the author of the ground-breaking books, Smart Drugs and Nutrients, Smart Drugs II: The Next Generation, and GHB: The Natural Mood Enhancer. On this last book, quoting from a forward by Julian Whitaker, M.D.: Julian Whitaker, M.D.:

”At last, a book that tells the truth about GHB! Until now, the only information that has reached the public about this truly remarkable substance has been hysterical, irrational and downright fraudulent stories that demonize GHB as a dangerous, date rape drug with no medical uses whatsoever. Folks, it just ain’t true!

”In spite of its therapeutic power, GHB is perhaps one of the safest and least toxic substances available for the treatment of these conditions. To my knowledge, and contrary to the irrational media hysteria, not one death has ever accurately been attributed to GHB. In fact, GHB is rapidly metabolized to carbon dioxide and water, which are safely eliminated by the lungs and kidneys.”

In addition to his role as the Medical Director of Life Enhancement during its early days, he was also the Medical Editor of an independent biomedical publication I did from 1992–1995, Living Longer. Dr. Dean has always been generous with his time and intelligence, especially when it comes to the subject for which he shows great passion, the subject that we call life enhancement.

We are fortunate to be able to tap into his thinking and the benefits of his research once again as Dr. Dean begins his role as the Medical Editor of Life Enhancement and Medical Director of Life Enhancement Products, Inc.
