CDP-Choline Confusion

Q. Dear Dr. Dean,

I read your articles about CDP-choline with great interest. Is there a difference between cyticholine and cyticholine sodium? I noticed both are used in the literature and this has confused me. Which ingredient is in the products that you recommend?

JACK, New York City

A. Dear Jack,

I believe that all of the research is done with the sodium salt. As far as I know, the terms are interchangeable. I think it’s just that some authors are more specific than others, resulting in the inadvertent confusion. Our products use cytidine 5-diphosphocholine sodium salt, also known as CDP-choline (which is found in CDP-Choline and CerebroPlex).

I hope this answers your question,

Ward Dean, M.D.
