Can Quercetin Prevent Gout?

In a new study, quercetin has been found to inhibit xanthine oxidoreductase in vitro, the final step in intracellular uric acid production. This indicates that quercetin might be able to lower blood uric acid in humans, and by so-doing prevent gout, a lifestyle affliction that was once known as the disease of kings because the food and alcohol indulgences were once so costly. But with obesity on the rise throughout the world, not unsurprisingly, so is gout. Researchers have determined that 500 mg taken daily for 4 weeks can reduce the risk of gout substantially.
