Why We Take Astaxanthin
Durk & Sandy explain why they have found a place for astaxanthin among the nutrients that they take. Chief among the reasons they offer is its versatility to help protect against fibrosis, and benefit many other common ailments. These include the inhibition of neurodegeneration, an increase in muscle endurance, protection of mitochondria, anti-coagulatory and antiinflammatory effects, beneficial effects on colitis and colitis-associated colon carcinogenesis, and possibly anti-aging effects. As well, antaxanthin has been shown to possess antihypertensive benefits and offer antioxidant synergy between carotenoids in membranes. There is also the likelihood that it can increase HDL levels (the “good cholesterol”).
